NBSOIL Academy Code of Conduct


As a participant in the NBSOIL Academy, you must adhere to our Code of Conduct while conducting research or interacting with fellow participants. Respect for this code ensures integrity in our work and interactions, including adherence to rules to prevent plagiarism. Additionally, when engaging in field research or participating in any NBSOIL Academy activities, please follow the health and safety guidelines outlined for participants. These measures safeguard your well-being during any hands-on activities associated with the academy. Before fully engaging in the academy's activities, we require all participants to sign a confirmation indicating their understanding and commitment to these principles.

We ask that participants adhere to our Code of Conduct for live online learning sessions, such as workshops and webinars, to enhance each other’s learning experiences: 

Respectful Communication: 

• Engage with instructors and peers respectfully. Avoid disruptive or offensive language. Active Participation: • Participate actively and contribute to discussions, exercises, and activities. • Support your fellow learners with their active participation 

Privacy and Confidentiality: 

• Respect the privacy of others. Do not share personal information or session recordings without permission.

Recording Awareness: 

• Be aware that sessions may be recorded, and your participation is part of the recorded content. Respecting Intellectual Property: • If you choose to share learnings externally, credit the NBSOIL Academy and do not share or reproduce course materials without permission from the academy.

Feedback and Improvement: 

• Provide constructive feedback to help improve the learning experience for everyone. In-Person Event Code of Conduct For in-person events, we ask participants to adhere to the following guidelines: Respectful Interaction: 

• Treat hosts, speakers, and fellow participants with respect and courtesy.

Health and Safety: 

• Follow all safety instructions and guidelines provided by the hosts or organisers.

Respect for Property: 

• Handle all equipment, tools, and property with care and follow any usage guidelines.

Photography and Recording: 

• Photography and recording may occur during in-person events. Please inform the NBSOIL organisers if you do not consent to be recorded. 

Confidentiality: 

• Respect any confidential information shared during the event and do not disclose it without permission. Feedback and Improvement: • Provide constructive feedback to help enhance future events and experiences. Health and Safety Guidelines for NBSOIL Academy

Online Activity Health and Safety Guidelines
Ergonomic Workspace: 

• Set up a comfortable and ergonomic workspace. Ensure your chair, desk, and computer setup support good posture to avoid strain and injury. 

Screen Time Management: 

• Take regular breaks to rest your eyes and stretch your body. Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. 

Secure Internet Connection: 

• Use a secure and reliable internet connection to prevent disruptions during online sessions.

Digital Security: 

• Protect your personal information and privacy online. Use strong passwords and be cautious of phishing scams and malware.

Emergency Contacts: 

• Keep emergency contact numbers and information readily accessible in case of any technical or health-related emergencies.

Mental Health: 

• Manage stress and workload effectively. Seek support from instructors or peers if you feel overwhelmed. They will direct you to helpful resources.

In-Person Activity Health and Safety Guidelines

General Safety: 

• Follow all safety instructions provided by the hosts or organisers. Pay attention to safety briefings and emergency procedures. 

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): 

• Use appropriate PPE such as gloves, masks, or safety goggles as required during hands-on activities. 

Health Monitoring: 

• Monitor your health and avoid attending in-person events if you feel unwell or exhibit any symptoms of illness. Hygiene Practices:

• Maintain good hygiene practices, including regular hand washing or using hand sanitiser, especially before and after activities.

Safe Travel: 

• Plan your travel to and from the event venue safely. Follow local guidelines for public transport and avoid risky areas.

Emergency Procedures: 

• Familiarise yourself with the location of emergency exits, first aid kits, and contact points for medical assistance at the venue. 

Respectful Conduct: 

• Respect personal space and follow any social distancing guidelines that may be in place. Be considerate of others’ comfort levels regarding physical proximity.

Environmental Awareness: 

• Be aware of your surroundings and any potential hazards. Report any unsafe conditions to the event organisers immediately.

• Adhere to any site-specific health and safety advice provided by the event organisers. This may include unique risks or procedures relevant to the event's location. By following these health and safety guidelines, you contribute to a safe and productive learning environment for everyone.
